This summer, City of Sanctuary UK will be holding an exciting free online course for people with lived experience of both the asylum system and UK maternity services.
This Sanctuary in Maternity Course is designed to support people seeking sanctuary to develop the skills, knowledge and confidence to become advocates for themselves and others in the maternity system, whilst working to make maternity healthcare more welcoming and safe for everyone.
From the 4th May to the 15th June, successful applicants will participate in weekly 2.5 hour online sessions and have the opportunity to learn from expert facilitators from a range of organisations working within the sector.
What is the Sanctuary in Maternity Course?
The training covers:
- UK Politics and Health Policy-making
- An introduction to the UK maternity system, entitlements to care and ways of political engagement
- Campaigning and advocacy techniques
- Working with the media to promote stories of Sanctuary in Maternity
