Universities of Sanctuary Conference 2023
Forced Migration and Access to Higher Education: Reuniting Communities
Hosted by the University of Edinburgh
Register on Eventbrite
Deadline for registrations: Monday 5 December 2022
Access to and participation in education for people seeking sanctuary has long been an area of significant interest for universities. In the past few years especially, the role of universities in welcoming and fostering safe environments has been more important than ever – they have been paramount in creating welcoming communities and practices both within and beyond their campuses.
The Universities of Sanctuary annual conference is a gathering of sanctuary scholars, university staff, academics, researchers, student volunteers and City of Sanctuary members. This year we are very grateful to The University of Edinburgh for hosting this fourth annual conference. This will be a day-long in person (not hybrid) event in Edinburgh.
Taking place the day after the UNHCR UK Higher Education Refugee Forum in Edinburgh, this conference will be an opportunity for members of the Universities of Sanctuary network and others interested refugees’ access to higher education to connect with colleagues, share practice and discuss current issues with their peers.
Together, we will aim to explore topics such as: creating effective links between further education colleges and universities; supporting post-study opportunities for people seeking sanctuary; training development for HE staff on refugee issues: campaigning for fairer asylum policies and more.
Please note: the conference fee is intended to support the travel and accommodation costs of people who otherwise would be unable to participate.
