About the event
This year, the annual UoS conference will take place from the 15th through 26th of November 2021. The decision has been taken to deliver the conference as a series of online events taking place over the course of two weeks.
This conference will be free and everyone is welcome to attend
As a stream of the national charity City of Sanctuary UK, the Universities of Sanctuary initiative aims to recognise the good practice of universities that welcome people seeking sanctuary into their communities and seek to foster a culture of awareness and inclusivity. With 23 existing accredited Universities of Sanctuary (UoS) in the UK and 50 more currently working towards accreditation. Accreditation is based on a minimum criterion of standards universities must fulfil, in addition to ‘Learn’, ‘Embed’ and ‘Share’, which reflects the three guiding principles of the City of Sanctuary awards. This is the third annual UoS conference to bring together members and people interested in this expanding national movement.
This conference is open to all, but mainly aimed at academic and professional services staff from HEIs, students, sanctuary scholars, staff from local and national City of Sanctuary groups and other third sector organisations, as well as language tutors (including EAP practitioners).
