The Together With Refugees coalition have launched a new community campaign, Hospitality not Hostility, to show the widespread opposition to this government’s cruel new bill which will see people seeking sanctuary denied safety, criminalised and deported.
This new community action will take place during Refugee Week (19-25 June) and Scottish Refugee Festival (16-25 June), and as the government’s #RefugeeBanBill continues through Parliament. Together we will stand up and show that our communities want Hospitality Not Hostility for people seeking sanctuary in the UK.
This will be done by groups, organisations and individuals hosting a community meal, picnic or tea and inviting your MP. Together With Refugees have produced a toolkit with top tips on how to create an impactful event.
Sharing a meal (or even a good old cup of tea!) is one of the ‘simple acts’ suggested by Refugee Week. Feel free to create an event that works for you – be as ambitious or as simple as you like!
It would be fantastic to see groups and awarded organisations within the City of Sanctuary networks incorporating this idea into their Refugee Week plans.
