City of Sanctuary’s impact in 2022

I’m Siân, and as the Chief Officer at City of Sanctuary UK I have the absolute pleasure and privilege to oversee everything achieved by our networks of welcome.

We’ve just taken stock of 2022 – and it was a BIG year.

Hundreds of new schools, councils, universities, arts organisations and more joined the Sanctuary networks. Behind every group, and every awarded institution, there are thousands of people whose lives have been improved.

Here’s just a a few big wins…

  • Over third of all UK universities either have the award or are working towards it.
  • Nearly 400 primary and secondary schools have the award, with another 350 working towards it.
  • There are now five awarded local authorities of Sanctuary, and we are working with another 126, including 22 out of the 32 London Boroughs

This is the power of welcome. Read our 2022 impact report here.

Last year saw growth in our networks like never before – but now our longer term future hangs in the balance.

Two of our major funding grants will come to an end next year. That’s the majority of our core funding.

We need you to stand with us at this critical moment.

If you can, please become a regular monthly donor. Your support will help us weather this storm and plan for the future.

If you have any ideas or want to support us further during these difficult times, please reach out me on sian@cityofsanctuary.org

Your support means the world to us.

In solidarity,
Siân Summers-Rees, City of Sanctuary UK Chief Officer
