Guide to Refugees and the General Election

City of Sanctuary is urging  all its supporters to contact their Parliamentary candidates and ask them to sign up to the Refugee Welcome Pledge. Easy access to e-action on this can be found on the Refugee Council website.  It takes less than 5 minutes and is our minimum ask. For those engaged in voter registration drives, events organisation and hustings work the following will be very helpful:

General Election 2017: Refugee Council Guide to Hustings

Refugee Council have created a guide to hustings to support people in talking to their local candidates about refugees in the run up to the general election. The guide includes questions that can be asked of candidates, around safe and legal routes, the UK asylum process and integration opportunities, and provides background information and stats for those who are able to have a fuller discussion. If you have an interesting conversation with one of your candidates about refugees, do get in touch to let Refugee Council know, by emailing [email protected].

Migrants Organise ‘Promote the Migrant Voice’ Toolkit

Migrants Organise have come together with others to organise ‘Promote the Migrant Vote’ events around the country. They’ve designed a comprehensive and helpful action toolkit to support migrants, refugees and their supporters, to mobilise their communities around the General Election, providing information on the electoral process as well as ideas and suggestions for actions and events to encourage people to register and vote. If taking part, keep them in the loop by tweeting @migrantsorg or @migrantvote or use #PromoteTheMigrantVote #migrantvote.
