Get Involved with the Welcome Weekend

Our partners Together With Refugees are bringing communities together across the UK for Welcome Weekend on 7-10 August 2025.

On August 7, 2024 communities rallied against those who tried to stir fear and hatred in our neighbourhoods. Tens of thousands of people stood up, together we restored peace and safety on our streets.

One year on, in communities across the country, people are coming together. This August 7-10, people are organising Welcome events to demonstrate that our communities are open and welcoming.

Whether it’s a picnic or shared meal, a poster-making activity with a group, a moment of reflection in as school or place of worship or engaging with your MP.

We’re showing our neighbours, our MPs and the country just how much support for refugees there is within our communities. That when confronted by the politics of division, we come together. In place of fear, we seek understanding. In the face of hate, we choose welcome.

Want to do more? City of Sanctuary is running it’s own Summer of Sanctuary: Building Welcome in Our Communities – this offers each of us three simple ways to build the bonds that make our communities strong. No special skills required, no lengthy commitments needed – just small actions that create ripples of positive change. Find out more and get involved
