The Sing for Freedom Choir is an inclusive group originally founded in 2016 by Freedom from Torture. The choir is made up of current and former clients of the charity, as well as staff and choir enthusiasts based in London.
The choir, which is now run by Together Productions, were Highly Commended at the recent Community Integration Awards run by Migration Work Trust. The awards aim to celebrate the social benefit for communities who work to welcome migrants and people seeking sanctuary.
Through rehearsals and performances, the Sing for Freedom Choir has created a welcoming community for refugees and asylum seekers who have made their homes in the UK after facing extreme difficulties in their countries of origin. The therapeutic impact of being part of the choir has changed lives. As one of the members says, “One of the worst things about torture is that it silences you….the choir has given me back a voice”.

City of Sanctuary will be hosting members of the choir at a Funday Friday session on March 19th as part of Connect & Create.
