Last year internationally acclaimed pianist Margaret Fingerhut raised an incredible £82,000 for City of Sanctuary, visiting 32 cities across the UK with a unique piano recital ‘Far From the Home I Love’
On Friday 5th June 2020, 8pm, Margaret will be performing her fundraising finale live-streamed over Facebook to reach her target of £88,000 (£1k for each piano key on a standard piano) to support the work of City of Sanctuary.

Raghad Haddad from the National Syrian Orchestra and singer-songwriter Sam Slatcher from the Stories of Sanctuary project, alongside special guests violinist Peter Fisher and musician, composer, singer and Oud soloist Arian Hu.

People seeking sanctuary in the U.K have been particularly hard hit during the Covid crisis, with many unable to access accommodation or support and those on limited support and in shared accommodation unable to self-isolate.
All funds raised go to support the work of City of Sanctuary creating a culture of welcome for those seeking sanctuary.
Margaret has also made a recording of the solo piano piece ‘Memories from My Land’ which she commissioned for her series from the Kurdish refugee composer, Moutaz Arian.

‘Far From the Home I Love’
Margaret’s recital draws upon the stories and music of composers who had to leave their homelands because of war or persecution, or who moved country because of their work, her unique programme gave a powerfully emotional context to the theme of migration and resonated with the current troubling attitudes towards refugees and those in exile.
