Valentine’s Day triumph

⁣What a triumph!

From Brecon to Folkestone, Aberdeen to Birmingham, on Valentine’s Day thousands of you stood with people seeking sanctuary in our communities and joined the call for fair new plan for refugees.

This was all about filling our streets, classrooms, windows and social media timelines with orange hearts showing solidarity with refugees whilst amplifying the call for a compassionate and fair asylum system.

The Fair Begins Here campaign is being led by our friends at Together With Refugees, with City of Sanctuary groups and awarded organisations coming together with hundreds of other organisations and instututions to demonstrate united and visible support for a new approach.

The Fair Begins Here campaign is calling for a fair new plan for refugees with:

  • Protection for people fleeing war and persecution by upholding the UK’s commitment under international law to the right to claim asylum and by scrapping the Rwanda scheme.
  • A proper strategy for welcoming refugees by ensuring fair, rapid decisions on their application for asylum, and the chance to rebuild their lives through settling in a community, being allowed to work and the chance to learn English.
  • Stronger global cooperation to tackle the root causes that force people to flee their homes and provides positive solutions when they do, including through safe routes to refugee protection.

A huge thank you and well done to everyone who got involved.
