A very warm welcome to Arooba Hameed who is joining the City of Sanctuary UK team as our new part-time Sanctuary Ambassador Coordinator.

Arooba took part in our 2019 Sanctuary in Politics course and has since served as one of our trustees.

Arooba is passionate about access to education and has set up her own community group helping other refugees access scholarships and get into higher education, and she has helped assess Sanctuary awards for universities.⁣ She has recently finished a Bachelor of Science at the University of Bristol.

Arooba will be supporting and growing the Sanctuary Ambassador network as well as the Expert by Experience Advisory Group.

People who are seeking sanctuary are at the heart of what City of Sanctuary is all about and their voices and experiences are central to shaping our work.

Our Sanctuary Ambassadors are supported to use their own expertise, experiences and stories to campaign for the UK to be a welcoming place for all and have a fair, effective and humane asylum system. They also contribute by shaping how City of Sanctuary operates at the local and national level through the Expert by Experience Advisory Group.
