From Birmingham to Brighton, Swansea to Settle, the message is loud and clear: refugees are welcome here.
Last week thousands of people from all corners of the UK came together to spread messages of solidarity with those forced to flee their homes.
A huge well done to everyone who got stuck in with the Together With Refugees week of action. The country has been awash with orange hearts – the global symbol of support for people seeking sanctuary. This community of welcome has never felt stronger.
City of Sanctuary groups from around the country travelled to London for the #RefugeesWelcome rally, including City of Sanctuary UK’s own team. In Birmingham, children showed up to show their solidarity with those forced to flee their homes, whilst messages of welcome were seen in Abergavenny, Swansea and Huddersfield and on the beaches in Hastings, Brighton, Tynemouth and Tenby – to name but a few!
Our newspapers and newsfeeds were packed with creative, heartwarming examples of solidarity and welcome. You are all incredible.
Our politicians want us to think there isn’t an alternative to hostility, but we know a kinder, fairer and more effective approach to support refugees is possible.
