Parliamentary Debate and policy update on permission to work

On 11 January 2017, a House of Commons debate was held on “Asylum seekers: Right to Work”, tabled by Alison Thewliss MP (SNP).

The response from the Government indicates no change in their current policy position. The failure of Labour’s shadow spokesperson to attend the debate indicates that they still have not carried out the review of this policy that they promised when withdrawing support for an amendment to change the current policy during the passage of the Immigration Act 2016.
