A Future Fit for People and Planet

Working together for climate justice and migrant justice

As world leaders prepare to meet for COP this November, the urgency for action has never been clearer. The climate crisis is already reshaping lives, livelihoods, and entire communities – yet it doesn’t impact us all equally. Those least responsible for global emissions are often those paying the highest price. Many people seeking sanctuary in the UK come from regions already hit hardest by climate breakdown, conflict, and inequality.

Our new resource, A Future Fit for People and Planet, explores how we can meet this moment – by breaking down silos and working intersectionally across movements for social, climate, and migrant justice. It shares real stories from those living the reality of climate-linked displacement, and offers practical ways for City of Sanctuary groups and awarded organisations to collaborate, learn, and act together.

We can’t tackle the climate crisis without standing in solidarity with people seeking sanctuary. And we can’t build lasting justice for displaced people without addressing the environmental and economic systems driving displacement in the first place.

Now is the time to strengthen and grow our collective movement – to counter the threat of the far right, to foster politics and practice that benefit all of us, and to centre justice, dignity, and care in everything we do.
