As greater numbers of people seeking sanctuary are housed in institutional settings like hotels for long periods of time, we are hosting a free online event to share ideas and best practice.

This event is designed to support and empower City of Sanctuary regional groups to learn more about hotel accommodation.

Speakers include:

  • Mabli Jones of Asylum Matters: Will provide overview of the wider picture around hotels and institutional accommodation and Asylum Matters work on this issue.
  • Elahe Ziai of IMIX: Provide key suggestions for how to manage any media queries/reports around the hotel accommodation issue.
  • A person currently living in a hotel will share his experiences.
  • Rosie Tapfield, of Newcastle Council/Inclusion team will speak about hotel accommodation in the NE/Newcastle over the last year and reference how the council works with local groups to support people.
  • Sarah Stewart, Falkirk FOSS – She will share how FOSS have been supporting people in hotels.
  • Liz Hibberd of Manchester CoS – She will share how Manchester CoS has supported hotels in/around Manchester.
There will be time for Q & A and open discussion after the speakers have shared their expertise.
