Everyone deserves a safe birth. Yet refugee and migrant parents face significantly worse outcomes – higher maternal mortality, increased mental health challenges, more preterm births, and greater risk of congenital anomalies. That’s why we started our Maternity Project, and now, after a funding-related pause last year, we’re delighted to announce its relaunch!
City of Sanctuary’s Maternity Stream brings together midwives, health workers, people with lived experience of the asylum system, educators, and researchers. Together we’re working to raise awareness and ensure more families receive the support they need throughout the journey from pregnancy to parenthood.
To celebrate institutions that go above and beyond for people seeking sanctuary, we’ve now relaunched the Maternity Stream of Sanctuary Award, This is a strategic tool that recognises, rewards and encourages good practice within maternity services.
Now accepting applications! We’re excited to invite maternity charities or NHS maternity departments interested in pursuing the award to apply.
