With around 150 people from all over the country registered to attend the City of Sanctuary National Conference and AGM, heavy snow in the days leading up to the event was the last thing we needed. The weather conditions in Wales, the South, and parts of the Midlands and Peak District did keep some of our delegates away, but we were delighted with an exciting and uplifting day attended by around 100, including several who made it through from the snowiest regions of Wales and the South West.
In the morning, presentations from Leicester, Wakefield, Swansea, Brisol and the host city of Manchester inspired group work where people from many cities and organisations shared stories of inspiration and change. It was great to see new City of Sanctuary groups such as Birmingham,Cardiff, Liverpool, Exeter, Edinburgh and Teesside well represented and bringing fresh enthusiasm and energy to the movement.
Four new trustees, Justin Nsengiyumva,Jeni Vine, Rose McCarthy and Jeff Morgan were elected onto the board during the AGM. We then had a delicious lunch and entertainment from WAST, followed by a series of workshops including Schools of Sancuary, Sanctuary in Health, Movement Building and Empowering refugees. Overall it was a great day and we look forward to the outworking of the new ides and energy that came from it.
